Safety procedures eLearning on 'Work on or near High Voltage Overhead Lines'

Three new courses dealing with Overhead Line Working are now in use by National Grid.

The courses are based on the formal National Grid Safety Instructions and are being used by National Grid engineers and contractors. Each procedure is explained with illustrations and animations before the learner carries out the sequence using an interactive toolbox to apply and remove items of equipment. The program marks their actions and provides corrective feedback.

After logging in, users select their level of authorisation and the program automatically selects appropriate content and final assessment questions.

The program is launched from the client's LMS and communicates via SCORM-compliant data exchanges.

3D Cab simulator for London Underground

TNA has developed an exciting new 3D training and assessment tool for London Underground to support their introduction of the new Transmission Based Train Control system.

The ‘e-Sim’ immerses drivers in highly realistic, interactive scenarios and tracks their decisions. Overground and underground track movies (modelled in 3D) appear through the windows, with their playback speed controlled by the traction brake controller and in synch with the speedometer.

Produced in Adobe Flash, the simulator allows the driver to pan 360 degrees around the cab to see and operate controls and other equipment.

Office conflictWhen technology is not the answer!

We are often asked if eLearning can take the place of face-to-face coaching and personal development.

Well, until we have a technology that can understand emotions, shed tears, interpret body language, provoke reactions and understand every nuance of human response then the answer has to be an emphatic NO!

So we are proud to refer our clients to associate company Talkvoices Role-Play who plan and conduct the most realistic sessions imaginable for management and staff training and assessment. Attendees are often stunned by the situations they find themselves immersed in and have been heard commenting that they 'couldn't believe it wasn't for real'.

Visit the Talkvoices Role-Play web site and read a summary of their services in this document.

Top Ten ingredients for effective Serious Games.

We'd better wake up to the learning expectations of the game-playing, mouse-clicking, 'igeneration'.

Give them a 90 slide PowerPoint and they'll glaze over. But give them a challenge and they'll not give up until they've succeeded. They're certainly not lazy but they bore quickly. This article by Tim Neill explains the demands of the new workforce and suggests practical ways to engage them with task-relevant content and assessments.
